Referees’ Review

A record-breaking season for Mid-Essex Referees.

From a refereeing perspective, season 2023-24 was a highly successful one. For the second year in a row, we achieved one of the highest coverage levels across the entire country, appointing a referee to every Competition fixture. We had just one ‘no-show’ on the day, down from two in season 2022-23.

Club feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are pleased to share that we have beaten our record average club mark for the third season in a row, achieving 84/100 in season 2023-24, versus 82/100 in 2022-23 and 81/100 in 2021-22.

Several of our referees achieved promotions and many also celebrated cup final appointments from our Competition and Essex County FA.

Our success in these key areas is a testament to the quality and professionalism of Mid-Essex referees and we look forward to another rewarding season in 2024-25.

We are delighted to announce that Lewis Sibbons has been awarded the Bill Hawkes Referees Trophy for season 2023-24, becoming the 29th winner of the prestigious award which is given to the top-performing referee on the Competition each season.
