South Cestos FC book their place in the next round of the Division Three Cup at the expense of Writtle FC, after a tight game at Billet Lane.

South Cestos FC 0-0 Writtle FC
South Cestos win 5-4 on penalties

A competitive game unfolded at Billet Lane in Stanford-le-Hope, though chances were at a premium as neither side took too many risks in the first half. Both teams hit the woodwork early on, but neither were able to break the deadlock before the break.

HT: 0-0

The second half was an equally tight affair but the game did open up somewhat in the latter stages as both sides pushed for a goal that would have seen them progress to the second round in normal time.

However, both defences held firm and neither side were able to fashion a clear-cut chance, albeit not for the want of trying. As the minutes ticked on, the game always looked likely to go the distance.

FT: 0-0

Crucial penalties were missed by the first five takers from each team, which eventually saw the shootout go to sudden death.

Vitally, Writtle saw their seventh penalty saved, and the following spot kick was slotted away emphatically, booking South Cestos their place in the next round of the Competition.

Pens: 5-4
